What is a NatHERS assessment?
A NatHERS assessment measures the thermal performance of a home using accredited software to determine its energy efficiency rating under the National Construction Code (NCC).
Do I need an energy rating for my new home or renovation?
All new homes require an energy efficiency assessment under current National Construction Code (NCC) requirements. Extensions and significant renovations may also require compliance depending on the project scope.
What is the difference between NatHERS and DTS?
NatHERS is a performance-based assessment pathway that rates the thermal efficiency of a home, while DTS (Deemed-to-Satisfy) is a prescriptive compliance method based on specific construction requirements outlined in the NCC.
Which compliance pathway is best for my project?
The most suitable pathway depends on the project design, location, state requirements, and certifier preferences. We can advise whether NatHERS or DTS is the better option for your project.
What information do you need to complete an assessment?
Typically, we require architectural plans, site plans, elevations, window schedules, construction specifications, and details of insulation and building materials.
Under the current NCC requirements, additional information may also be required for Whole of Home assessments, including appliance selections, hot water systems, air conditioning, lighting, pool equipment, solar systems, and other energy-related features.
Can changes to my plans affect the energy rating?
Yes. Changes to glazing, orientation, insulation, colours, materials, or room layouts can impact the final energy rating and may require reassessment.
How long does an energy assessment take?
Timeframes vary depending on project complexity and the quality of information provided, however most residential assessments are completed within a few business days.
Do you provide BASIX certificates for NSW projects?
Yes. We provide BASIX assessments and compliance services for residential projects in New South Wales.
What areas do you service?
We provide energy efficiency assessment services across Queensland and New South Wales, including but not limited to the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, and surrounding regions.
Can you work directly with my builder, designer, or certifier?
Yes. We regularly work with homeowners, builders, designers, architects, and private certifiers to help streamline the approval process.
What happens if my home does not achieve compliance?
If your project does not initially comply, we can recommend practical design or specification changes to help achieve the required standards.
Are energy-efficient homes cheaper to run?
Generally, yes. Improved energy efficiency can help reduce heating and cooling costs while improving year-round comfort.
